James F. Huston, IV

James F. Huston, IV

James Huston is a highly experienced attorney with 13 years of experience representing clients in complex and high-conflict family law and criminal defense matters. His practice focuses on family law litigation, contested custody and parenting disputes, criminal defense, and the strategic resolution of sensitive, high-stakes legal matters.

His experience in both family law and criminal defense provides a valuable perspective in matters where criminal allegations, domestic violence accusations, protective orders, or other issues may directly affect a client’s family, custody, or parental rights. He understands that these matters often require a comprehensive strategy designed to protect his clients’ interests both inside and outside the courtroom.

While James is an experienced litigator who is prepared to aggressively advocate for his clients when necessary, he also recognizes that litigation is not always the best path. He works closely with his clients to identify opportunities for discreet, negotiated resolutions when doing so serves their interests, while remaining ready to litigate decisively when circumstances demand it.
James began his legal career by founding and operating his own practice, which he successfully built and managed for 10 years. He subsequently joined a prominent family law firm, where he spent two years further expanding his experience in complex family law litigation. Throughout his career, clients have valued his direct and personal approach, sound judgment, preparation, and unwavering advocacy during some of the most difficult periods of their lives.
James earned his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University’s James Madison College and his law degree from Wayne State University Law School. He is licensed to practice law in the State of Michigan and before the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
